Leafs Still Need To Move A Forward This Summer

After the signing of Patrick Marleau, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a very crowded roster up front and an expensive one too! The team will likely have to make a trade before the start of the season to create both space on the roster and beneath the salary cap.

Head coach Mike Babcock hinted at who might be the odd man out before the season when talking about the team’s offseason additions earlier in the week, specify Tyler Bozak, Nazem Kadri, James van Riemsdyk and Leo Komarov.

“They’re real good players,” Babcock said per the Toronto Star. “And two of them or . . . any way you look at it, we can’t all be on the team as we move ahead. It doesn’t work like that. We have to figure out a way when you have opportunities to do what you can.”

Out the names listed above, Kadri is the only player not entering the final year of his contract. Even though the five years remaining on his deal could fetch the best return, Kadri is a favorite of Babcock and is the least likely to be traded.

Bozak and van Riemsdyk have had their names attached to trade rumors, but JVR could be the most likely to be traded. He has the biggest cap hit, which will help the Leafs sign restricted free agent Connor Brown and give them some wiggle room during the season.

Who do you think will be traded before the start of the season?
