The exciting Maple Leafs young core is off to a red hot start and has been causing a ton of excitement in Toronto. Players like Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner have Leafs fans dreaming about long playoff runs in the future.
With the NHL team doing so well it is easy to forget that there is still plenty of young talent still on the way!
One of those young players is 2017 first round draft pick Timothy Lijegren who is off to good start in his first season in North America with the Toronto Marlies. The Maple Leafs AHL affiliate opened their weekend up with a pair of wins over the Utica Comets at the Ricoh Coliseum.
With 28 seconds remaining in the first period, Lijegren gave the Marlies a lead with his first career American Hockey League goal on the power play. You have to give veteran Colin Greening a ton credit for helping to keep the play alive with his hard work in front of the net.
