While the Toronto Maple Leafs look forward to the start of the 2021-22 season there’s still a black cloud on last year.

Another first round playoff exit got the Leafs absolutely destroyed across social media and in the media.

This year’s scapegoat?

Mitch Marner by a landslide.

Marner has been ripped apart this summer for not only his playoff performance against the Montreal Canadiens but his last couple of performances.

The criticism this summer has one former NHLer wondering if Marner can mentally continue in this market.

“The cloud in Toronto is, Mitch Marner got absolutely eviscerated coming out of the playoffs, how does a relatively young guy recover from that mentally and in a market where they expect a lot even though they don’t get a lot, their expectations are high.”

Those comments come from former NHLer Aaron Ward during a recent appearance on TSN690 where Ward feels he might not make it through.

What do you think of Ward’s comments?
