Toronto Maple Leafs superstar forward John Tavares decided to hop on a plane and play for Team Canada this spring at the World Championships.

However unfortunately the Leafs forward didn't even make it to the opening of the tournament as he was injured during practice.

The Leafs immediately flew Tavares back to Toronto to undergo tests by their medical team.

On Saturday the Leafs announced the details of Tavares' injury.

The Leafs announced that Tavares will be sidelined for a month with his oblique injury.

Tavares should be able to resume offseason training in a month.
