The NHL waiver period officially opened today at noon and there's lots of teams looking for roster space and salary cap relief.

Toronto Maple Leafs' general manager Kyle Dubas wasted no time in trying to free up both.

The Leafs placed forward Kalle Kossila on waivers today.

Kossila was signed last year as a depth move but with all this year's signings there was no room for him.

He has one year left on his deal at $700k and is currently on loan overseas playing in the DEL.

The 27 year old registered six points in 12 games for the Marlies last season.
