The Toronto Maple Leafs announced their 25th captain in franchise history last night.
Hometown boy, John Tavares, is the Leafs' latest captain and it seems he's the perfect fit.
One of the Leafs' most popular captains in recent history, Doug Gilmour, wrote an open letter to Tavares giving him some advice.
Gilmour isn't the only former Leafs' captain to reach out to Johnny T.
The Leafs' 24th captain in franchise history, Dion Phaneuf, also reached out to Tavares.
Tavares revealed to reporters that he received a really nice text message from Phaneuf last night.
"He sent a really, really nice message just saying how special it is to be a captain here & to play for this city"
Mark Masters of TSN points out the duo are familiar with each other as they were teammates for Team Canada a couple of years ago at the World's.
