As we get closer to the half way point for the month of August, Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Mitch Marner has yet to sign a new contract with the Leafs.

There's lots of questions surrounding the restricted free agent and various reports on if the two sides will ever be able to get a deal done.

Teammate and regular linemate, John Tavares, sat down with TSN recently and was asked about the ongoing process between the Leafs and Marner.

"There's lots of restricted free agents unsigned still, lots of guys in a similar position as him, so there's still some time here and I think we all believe that the right thing will happen," Tavares told TSN. "Something will get worked out, I think that is what both sides obviously want... sometimes it just takes longer than others."

Tavares is hoping that Marner is there for the opening day of training camp considering how big of a piece Marner is to the team's success.

"Mitch is obviously an important player for our team... obviously we want get him there for the first day of camp and keep moving forward towards the ultimate goal."
