The restricted free agency interview period has opened up and there's one name that's at the forefront of all chatter.
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has quite the amount of buzz, especially thanks to the Leafs' current salary cap situation.
Multiple reports have indicated that Marner is the first restricted free agent since Shea Weber in 2012 that will hold interviews with multiple teams.
One of those teams?
The Montreal Canadiens.
Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period reports on Thursday that the Canadiens held discussions with Marner and his camp.
There's two ways the Canadiens' could acquire Marner, either through an offer sheet where they'd have to give up four first round picks, or through trade where they'd have to give up some pieces.
While it's a long shot, if Marner were to head over to Montreal he would reunite with former London Knights teammate Max Domi.
Recap of @SiriusXMNHL chat w @LaughlinSXM Isles: - Lee still very much an option - Expect Lehner back - Lou chat w Panarin agent yesterday, meet today/tomorrow Habs: - Met Duchene yesterday - Spoke w Simmonds camp - Reached out to Marner camp, exploratory like 10-12 others
