It was a rough summer for the Toronto Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner.
The restricted free agent wasn't going to sign just any contract and stood his ground until he got exactly what he wanted, or close enough to it.
There were rumours that he was entertaining offer sheets, confirmation that at least two were presented to him.
Talk even built that he could play the season in Europe, but the young star ended up signing a six year deal to stay in Toronto.
The standoff left fans divided, some standing by Mitch saying he deserves big bucks, while others believed Marner should take a hometown discount to help out the Leafs salary cap situation.
Marner knows he took some heat and read a heartfelt letter to Leafs' fans and the city of Toronto.

Dear Toronto, I've always wanted to play for the @MapleLeafs, and now I'm here to stay. #SincerelyYours, @marner93 pic.twitter.com/3Tr4TQGozZ
