The Toronto Maple Leafs are actively shopping defenseman Nikita Zaitsev as per his trade request.

People thought it would be hard to move Zaitsev because of his contract and inconsistent play, however that seems to be far from the case as teams are showing interest in the defenseman.

Apparently one of those teams is located in Western Canada.

Reports are surfacing that the Vancouver Canucks are trying to land the defenseman.

With the reports gaining momentum, Sportsnet's Rick Dhaliwal asked Canucks general manager Jim Benning about the rumours.

"Lots of conversations going on right now, we will consider all of our options. I am not going to comment on any specifics but we are looking at all of our options."

It'll be interesting to see if the two sides can come to some sort of agreement.

The majority of reports indicate that the Leafs' will have to take a contract back in any Zaitsev deal.
